Vandals Win Against GCU

The Idaho Swim and Dive team came out fast for senior day as they beat conference opponent Grand Canyon by a team score of 213-89. The Vandals won 15 of 16 events with the only blemish coming from the 50 free with senior Erica Anderson missing out on first by just four hundredths of a second.

“I think we did great,” Coach Mark Sowa said. “We know that Grand Canyon is going to be there in the end, they're a very talented team.”

One of the stars from today's meet was senior swimmer Rachel Millet. Millet won all three of her individual event plus the 200 medley relay with teammates Cara Jernigan, Jamie Sterbis and Erica Anderson. She won the 200 free with a time of 1:52.21, the 100 free with a time of 51.22 and the 200 IM with a time of 2:04.95.

Freshman diver Niki Imanaka made a huge impact on the meet today by winning both the 1-meter and 3-meter diving events. She scored a 216.30 in the 3-meter and a 219.68 in the 1-meter. The Vandals also placed in the top four spots in the 1-meter diving event.

“This time of year you don't know what you're going to get from a competition standpoint,” Sowa said. “The way to beat a good team is get on them early and try to put them back on their heels. I think we did a good job of that.”

The Vandal divers will be back in action will be back in action on Jan. 30th for the Air Force Invitational and the swimmers will be back in action Jan. 31st for a dual meet against Oregon State.
