Battle of the Palouse

MOSCOW, Idaho – For the 110th consecutive season, Idaho will take on Washington State in basketball in the annual Battle of the Palouse.  Tipoff at Cowan Spectrum is set for 6:05 p.m. on Thursday.  The Vandals will also be having a White Out, with the first 500 fans getting free shirts.

MATCHUP – Idaho (5-5) is 108-162 all-time against Washington State (5-1).  The Vandals and Cougars have met at least once every year since 1906, making the Battle of the Palouse the longest running college basketball rivalry west of the Mississippi.  Last season, Idaho defeated Washington State, 77-71, in Pullman.

LAST TIME OUT – Idaho fell at USC, 74-55.  The Vandals led for the majority of the first half, and kept the game close through much of the second, but the Trojans pulled away late behind some impressive shooting.  Victor Sanders led the Vandals with 17 points.

NONCONFERENCE COMING TO A CLOSE – The Vandals play just three more nonconference games this season.  After Thursday's game against WSU, Idaho hosts New Hope on December 18, then travels to UC Davis on December 22.

GETTING TO THE LINE – The Vandals have struggled getting to the line over the last two games.  Against Little Rock, Idaho attempted just 10 free throws.  At USC, Idaho took just seven.  Over the previous eight games, Idaho had been averaging nearly 28 free throw attempts per game.
