Vandals in Fifth

CHANDLER, Ariz – The University of Idaho men's golf team is sitting in fifth place after a balanced team effort through 36 holes at the 18-team Wyoming Cowboy Classic.

Freshman Daniel Sutton is again near the top of the leaderboard, following a tie for second in his last time out at the Desert Shootout. Sutton led Idaho with a two-round total of four-under 140, shooting rounds of 69-71. He is positioned in a tie for 11th heading into Tuesday's final round. Jared du Toit also turned in a 36-hole total of 140 with consecutive 70s. Aaron Cockerill carded rounds of 71-70 to sit in a tie for 19th.

“Our ball striking was great today,” said Coach John Means. “We are in position to make a move tomorrow but we need to work on putting before we tee off tomorrow to straighten out a few things, if we do that we will be in the hunt coming down the stretch.”

Rylee Iacolucci is in the mix with scores of 71-70 on the day, the fourth Vandal inside the Top 20. Sean McMullen is in a tie for 45th, putting together solid rounds of 73-71 to pace the backside of the Vandal effort on day one.

Idaho sits just six strokes behind UC Davis who leads after Monday's opening rounds with a 20-under, 556. McNeese State is one shot off the lead with a 557, Colorado sits in third with a 558.

David Oraee of Colorado and Mike Brockington of UC Davis lead at eight-under, 136. Du Toit and Sutton are four back heading into tomorrow's final round.
