Vandals Earn Draw

Finish level at Weber State

OGDEN, Utah – It was a back-and-forth affair and neither team could take the upper hand, as Idaho (5-4-3, 5-1-1) drew at Weber State (5-7-2, 3-3-1), 1-1, on Friday night.

"Credit to Weber State, they're a very good possession-oriented team, they were flying at us with a lot of numbers and we didn't handle it as well as we needed to at times," said head coach Derek Pittman.  "Their record doesn't exactly reflect their quality.  They had a good crowd, it was their first night under the lights, and they were definitely up for the match.  We knew we had to defend really organized.  We didn't play our best, but in the end we'll take it, get out of here with a point and move on."

Idaho took the lead in the 23rd minute following a long throw from Josilyn Daggs.  After a deflection right in front, the ball landed just inside the six-yard box where Kavita Battan was ready to pounce for her fifth goal of the season.

Weber State leveled the score in the 76th, with Paige Stevens breaking through the defense for her fourth goal of 2016.

Torell Stewart was tremendous in net, making a season-high nine saves on the day.  Olivia Baggerly made her presence felt on the offensive end, taking five shots.

"We definitely gave up some shots that typically in the past we haven't," said Pittman.  "But that's why Torell is back there, she did an excellent job.  She made several huge saves for us to keep the game where it was and ultimately see out the tie."

The Vandals will take Sunday off and return next weekend at home.  Check back with GoVandals.com during the week for more information.

"It's going to be huge for us," Pittman said.  "To be able to travel home tomorrow to try to recover over the next two or three days before we get back out to training.  Like most teams we have a few knocks, a few bumps and bruises, so this rest will come at a good time for us.  It will help us go into this home stretch, these last three games, with the right mindset as we continue to protect our home field."
