Men’s hoops to showcase new squad on Thursday night

MOSCOW, Idaho – Fans can get their first look at the new and improved Idaho men's basketball squad on Thursday night at 6 p.m. in Memorial Gym with the annual Silver & Gold game.

The Vandals will take part in an intrasquad scrimmage beginning at 6 p.m., giving fans the first look at what's to come in the 2016-17 season.

Idaho returns much of last year's squad that cracked the 20-win plateau for the first time since 1992-93.  Idaho's top-six scorers from last year are back, led by Second Team All-Big Sky selection Victor Sanders.  The Vandals also return a number of other major contributors and add three newcomers to the mix.

The Vandals were picked to finish second in the league by the Big Sky coaches and were pegged third by the media.  Idaho finished third in the Big Sky standings last season at 12-6 and advanced to the Big Sky Tournament Semifinals in Reno.

Two exhibitions lay between Idaho and the regular season, beginning with Carroll College on October 25.  The Vandals will then host Lewis-Clark State on November 4 before opening the regular season at home against Corban University on November 12.

Big Sky preseason all-conference selections will be released on Wednesday.  Check back with GoVandals.com on Wednesday morning to see if any Vandals were selected.
