OGDEN, Utah – Junior guard
Victor Sanders is already bringing in some recognition for the program as he has been selected as one of six representatives for the Big Sky Preseason All-Conference Team.
Â
Sanders led the Vandals at 15.9 points per game a season ago. He also averaged 17.9 points per contest in conference play, earning All-Big Sky Second Team honors despite missing seven games. He appeared in 27 games overall, scoring in double-figures in 24.
Â
Sanders joins four seniors and one sophomore on the preseason all-conference team. Three members earned First Team All-Big Sky a season ago, while Sanders and Tyler Hall earned second team honors. Walter Wright was an honorable mention selection a season ago.
Â
Last year's preseason all-conference team featured seven athletes. Four would go on to earn All-Big Sky First Team honors, while one other earned second team accolades.
Â
Sanders stepped up in a major way when veteran guard
Perrion Callandret went down early in conference play. Sanders exploded, averaging 29.3 points per game over the three-game stretch, helping Idaho to wins over Northern Arizona and Montana.
Â
Outside of scoring, Sanders contributed everywhere. He tied for the team lead with 33 steals on the season and finished second with 16 blocks. His 51 blocks were tied for the third highest average on the team.
Â
Sanders posted the seventh best free throw percentage in program history at 84.8 percent and finished just outside the top-10 with 69 3-pointers. He finished the year with the 44
th best 3-point average in the nation and the fifth best mark in the Big Sky.
Â
The Vandals enjoyed their best season in recent memory last year, topping the 20-win plateau for the first time since the 1992-93 season. Idaho also took down local Pac-12 rival, Washington State, for the second straight season.
