Rehkow tops two Sun Belt statistical categories

Idaho senior punter/kicker Austin Rehkow is the Sun Belt Conference leader in two statistical categories after week eight of the college football season and as the Vandals head into their first bye week.

Rehkow is No. 1 in total points with 72, which is 10th nationally, and in field goals per game with 2.25, which is second nationally. He is second in the league and 11th nationally in field goal percentage (.900), and second in the Sun Belt and 28th nationally in points per game at 9.0.

Sophomore Tony Lashley also has a top spot in the league statistics – fumble recoveries with two (ninth nationally).

Junior quarterback Matt Linehan, who has thrown for 761 yards in the past two games, has moved into second in the conference and 29th nationally in total passing yards with 1,883.

Senior Jayshawn Jordan and sophomore Kaden Elliss are tied for third in the league and 17th nationally in total interceptions with three each as the Vandals are fourth in the conference and 20th nationally in interceptions with nine through eight games. Jordan is sixth in the conference and 39th nationally in solo tackles with 5.3 per game.

With a total of 15 takeaways, the Vandals are second in the Sun Belt and 16th nationally in turnovers gained. They're also second in the league in fewest total penalties with 39 (32nd nationally) and fewest penalties per game at 4.88 (22nd nationally).

Between Rehkow's punting average of 43.5, hang time and punt return defense, the Vandals are fourth in the league and 28th nationally in net punting. Rehkow's average is fourth in the conference and 28th nationally. He remains the active career leader with a four-year average of 46.6 yards per punt.

Next up for the Vandals, 4-4 overall and 2-2 in the Sun Belt, is Louisiana-Lafayette. Idaho, off to its best start since 2010, travels to ULL for the Nov. 5 game against the Ragin' Cajuns. Kickoff is 2 p.m. PT. ULL, also with a bye this week, is 3-4 overall and 2-2 in the league.
