Two indoor home meets coming up

MOSCOW, Idaho – Idaho track and field, as well as director of track and field/cross country Tim Cawley, are excited to announce the 2017 schedule, complete with two home meets and a handful of challenging road meets throughout the year.

Idaho will host a pair of indoor meets, beginning with the Vandal Indoor Invitational.  The multi-events will get started on Thursday, January 12, while the individual events will take place on Friday, January 13.  The Vandals will also host the Idaho Duals on February 3.

Several other local competitions are in store for the Vandals during the indoor season, with the WSU Indoor Open (1/20), the UW Invitational (1/27-28) and the Husky Classic (2/11-12).  The Big Sky Championships will take place in Pocatello, Idaho from February 23-25.

Idaho will be on the road for the entire outdoor season and will feature in a number of top-tier meets throughout the year.  Trips to the Stanford Invitational (4/1) Mt. SAC Invitational (4/11-16), OSU High Performance (4/28-29) and the Boise Border Clash (4/28-29) highlight the regular season.  The Vandals will also compete locally at the Pelluer Invitational at EWU from April 7-8, as well as the Sam Adams Invitational (3/24), the WAR X (4/8), the Spokane Memorial (4/22) and the CWU Final Qualifier (5/5).

The championship season begins with the Big Sky Championships in Sacramento, Calif., from May 11-13.  The NCAA Championships First Round will take place in Austin, Texas, from May 24-27.

Idaho competed well at the 2016 Big Sky Championships, with the men taking fourth and the women earning 10th after seeing significant improvements from the previous season.  Nine individuals earned All-Big Sky honors at the championships.

Six Vandals earned spots in the NCAA Championship First Round in Lawrence, Kansas in 2016.  Kinsey Gomez and Arphaxad Carroll advanced to the NCAA Championships in Eugene, where both would go on to earn Second Team All-America honors.

This cross country season has also been exceptional, as the Idaho women are currently ranked 12th in the West Region after competing well at the Washington Invitational over the weekend.  The men are also steadily improving, as the young crop of talent continues to impress.
