BROC WESTLAKE
It is with great privilege to announce Broc Westlake as February's male Scholar -thlete of the Month. Originally from Sparks, Nev., Westlake is completing his senior year at the University of Idaho as a Finance major. As a student-athlete, he has participated as a linebacker on the football team and as a member of the Barker Capital Management and Trading Program. Westlake was chosen to be the male Scholar-Athlete for February because of his tireless dedication to his academic goals.
The amount of effort and persistence required to earn a 4.0 across semesters - especially combined with the grueling schedule of being a collegiate athlete, is no easy feat but Westlake's determination and tenacity show us that it is possible. Westlake attributes the amount of support received by his family members, girlfriend, and teammates as well as his natural “nerdy” personality as his motivation to succeed. To be so successful, Westlake put in an abundant amount of effort both in the classroom and on the field. There is no doubt why his mother gave him the middle names Tanner Tough. His diligence and pure grit are powerful indicators of the bright future he has ahead.
Westlake's professor Kathy O'Malley offers this description of Broc: “I haven't had a student in a long time whom I respected more. He is bright, interested in learning, and willing to help others. I can't imagine how he manages his time so effectively. He is truly a 'gentleman and a scholar,' and totally worthy of recognition for his work ethic and academic performance”.
It is increasingly obvious that Westlake is incredibly deserving of this honor. We could not be more proud to report the contributions this young man has made to the University of Idaho. He represents himself, the football team, the College of Business and Economics, and Idaho Athletics with distinction.
REAGAN QUIGLEY
It is with great privilege to announce Reagan Quigley as February's Female Scholar-Athlete of the Month. Originally from Woodinville, Wash., Quigley is completing her senior year at the University of Idaho as an Operations Management and Information systems major. As a student-athlete, she has participated as a forward on the women's soccer team and is serving as the president of the Student0-Athlete Advisory Committee. Quigley was chosen to be the female Scholar-Athlete for February because of her dedication to her academic goals.
In the classroom, Quigley has earned a 3.8 GPA throughout her time at University of Idaho, while maintaining the rigorous schedule of being a student-athlete. Quigley has excelled, earning the Avista Scholarship, awarded to student-athletes that hold a cumulative GPA of at least 3.75, and was recognized on the WAC All-Academic team in 2013 and the Big Sky All-Academic team in 2014.
Quigley chose her major, because she views Information Systems and Operations Management as a puzzle and enjoys problem solving. She has enjoyed being able to soak up all the information she can so when she graduates in May she has a competitive edge in the job market. Academically she is motivated by her father who always told her that she can do whatever she wants and get whatever she wants, as long as she gets good grades.
With the recognition that Quigley has obtained at the University of Idaho, it is obvious why she is deserving of this honor. We could not be more proud to report the contributions this young woman has made to the University of Idaho. She represents herself, the women's soccer team, the College of Business and Economics, and Idaho Athletics with distinction.
