PREVIEW – Idaho dominated Montana on Friday, 4-1, to open up Big Sky play.  Elexis Schlossarek got the scoring started in the 23rd minute with a fantastic goal.  Schlossarek stole the ball from a Montana defender about 25 yards out, lined up her shot and fired a perfect left-footed shot into the back of the net.  Kavita Battan doubled the lead in a similar situation just four minutes later, creating a turnover and placing a great shot inside the far post.

Olivia Baggerly scored her second of the season midway through the second half on a rebound, while Emma Eddy got her first career goal on a great finish from a Schlossarek service just two minutes later.

Montana hadn't lost a Big Sky home game since 2013 and had not allowed four goals at home since 2011.  With the win, Idaho has now won its conference opener in each of the last four seasons.  The four goals are the most scored by a Vandal team in a conference opener in program history.

EWU also had an impressive start to the conference season.  The Eagles took down Idaho State at home, 3-0.

MATCHUP – Idaho is 11-9-1 all-time against EWU.  The Eagles were the only Big Sky team that Idaho did not beat in 2015, losing in the first meeting and drawing in the second.

ROAD WARRIORS – The Vandals will play seven straight games away from home, missing the majority of the month of September.  The stretch includes the final five games of the non-conference schedule and the first two Big Sky games of the season.  So far, the Vandals are 3-2-1 on the stretch.

RANKINGS – Idaho was picked by the Big Sky coaches to repeat in 2016, after receiving five first place votes and garnering 92 of a possible 100 points.  The Vandals are currently the sixth-ranked team in the Big Sky according to RPI at 233.  Eastern Washington is the top-ranked team in the conference at 104, while Montana is third at 150.
