The Vandals are back in the pool for competition this weekend against in-state rival Boise State. This will be the Vandals first competition since November's Phil Hansel Invitational that took place in Houston, Texas.
"It's been a long time since we have competed so we are looking forward to getting up and racing a very good team," Coach Mark Sowa said.
After a month of winter training, Sowa says he is very happy with the progress the team has made coming into the New Year. With only three more competitions left before conference championships in Houston, Sowa said the team is looking forward to getting back in the pool and racing.
"These next three competitions will be our chance to figure out what we want to become by the end of February at conference," Sowa said. "We truly believe that although we are a young team we are poised to take a big step forward."
Racing begins today at 5:30pm at the U of I Swim Center. The meet today is not a normal dual meet lineup and instead is being swum as an exhibition meet that will not be scored. The events that will take place today are 50s of stroke, and a 500 freestyle relay.
Saturday's competition will start at 11am and will be a dual meet lineup that will be scored. Diving will kick off the day with the 3-meter competition.Â
"As always we will look to compete like Vandals."
