MOSCOW, Idaho – The comeback effort fell just short on Sunday afternoon in the Kibbie Dome, with Idaho falling to Portland State, 2-1.
"Hats off to Portland State, they came into a difficult game in a difficult environment and they found a way to win," said head coach
Derek Pittman. "Unfortunately for us, we found a way to give it to them. I thought we played really well at times, especially in the first half. We were much aggressive trying to create opportunities.
"They're goal was completely against the run of play, in my opinion, with their first opportunity down in the end. But again, it comes down to details and we're learning that the hard way. It takes a lot of details to add up to a big result and we didn't do enough of that today. We didn't do enough of that to win the game, and Portland State did."
Portland State took the lead late in the first, with Kristin Moyer pouncing on a loose ball at the top of the box and firing.
The Vandals leveled the score in the 62
nd minute.
Hadley Sbrega got the play started, finding
Bridget Daley out wide. Daley gathered and sent in a beautiful cross to the top of the 6-yard box, finding the head of
Megan Goo who finished with ease.
The Vikings responded quickly, scoring just over one minute later, with Katie Forsee scoring her ninth goal of the season.
