POCATELLO, Idaho – The annual Battle of the Domes between Idaho and Idaho State is set to kickoff tomorrow, with Vandals soccer taking on the Bengals in Pocatello at 12 p.m. Pacific.
The series, brought to you by Idaho Central Credit Union, will operate on a point system, with the winning institution receiving a donation for its athletic scholarship fund. The yearly series will include soccer, volleyball and men's and women's basketball. Football will be added to the mix in 2018-19.
Soccer gets the series started on Sunday. Volleyball will join the action on Thursday, October 26, also in Pocatello. Men's and women's basketball will play Idaho State just once each this year, on February 22. The men will make the trip south, while the women will host the Bengals at 6 p.m.
"We're thrilled to be involved with these universities in the brand-new Battle of the Domes rivalry series," said Idaho Central Credit Union CEO, Kent Oram. "While we've been a long-standing corporate partner of Idaho State Athletics, this will be our first opportunity to be engaged with the Idaho Vandals, their campus community and fan base, and we're excited about that. We wish both programs the very best and look forward to a great year of competition ahead."
"We want to thank Idaho Central Credit Union for sponsoring this series. Creating opportunities where our student-athletes can compete against athletes from other Idaho universities benefits the entire State of Idaho," said Idaho Director of Athletics
Rob Spear.
Throughout the school year, Bengals and Vandals' fans can visit
www.isubengals.com or
www.govandals.com to track progress and see point totals. Spearheading the initiative with the athletic departments and Idaho Central Credit Union are Learfield's respective local teams, Bengals Sports Properties and Idaho Vandals Sports Properties.
Learfield is the athletics multimedia rightsholder for both universities and manages nearly 130 collegiate properties nationwide. Other Learfield partners hosting rivalry series include Oklahoma/Oklahoma State (Bedlam Series), Iowa/Iowa State (Cy-Hawk Series) and South Dakota/South Dakota State (South Dakota Showdown Series).
The unofficial series has been fairly even since Idaho rejoined the Big Sky ahead of the 2014-15 seasons. Since then, Idaho holds a narrow 9-8-1 advantage across four sports.
