Wodke snags Newcomer of the Year, Sharp First Team selection

SACRAMENTO—The Big Sky Conference announced its volleyball All-Conference team and individual awards prior to the start of Thursday's conference tournament.

Idaho junior Alycia Wodke was voted the Big Sky's Newcomer of the Year. Junior Sarah Sharp was recognized as a First Team All-Conference selection. Juniors Kaela Straw and DeVonne Ryter were both selected Second Team All-Conference.

Wodke, a transfer from College of Southern Idaho, leads all juniors in the Big Sky with 4.60 digs per set in her first season as a Vandal. She twice recorded a season-high of 26 digs this season, ending the regular season 10th in the Big Sky with 432 total digs. Her 26 digs against Montana are the second most in a conference three-set match this season. She also recorded 22 digs in a three-set match against Northern Colorado. She ranked fourth in the conference with 4.95 digs per set in Big Sky matches. The Eugene, Ore., native, is tied for second on the team with 19 aces this season, averaging 0.20 per set. Wodke was also a two-time Big Sky Defensive Player of the Week recipient.

Sharp, a Filer, Idaho native, was one of three student-athletes to make the jump from Second Team to First Team honors this season. She leads the Vandals this season with a career-best 3.62 kills per set, ranking fourth overall in the Big Sky. She has totaled 16 double-figure kill matches this season. Her 24 kills against North Dakota matched her career-high. Sharp is tied for the team lead with a career-best 3.91 points per set. Her .258 attack percentage this season is also a career-high mark. Sharp also picked up her first Big Sky Offensive Player of the Week honor this season.

Straw, a Spokane, Wash., native, recorded four matches this season with 20 or more kills. She set a career-high with 25 kills in Idaho's first win of the season at Illinois-Chicago. The mark is tied for fifth best most in the conference this season. Straw has totaled 10 or more kills in 16 matches this season. She is fifth in the Big Sky with 3.59 kills per set and sixth in conference matches with 3.72 kills per set. Straw has career-bests this season with 337 total kills, a.268 hitting percentage, 50 digs and 55 total blocks. She picked up her first career Offensive Player of the Week honor in October.

Ryter, a Sedona, Ariz., native, leads the Big Sky with a .483 hitting percentage in conference play. Her 1.21 blocks per set in Big Sky matches rank second in the conference. Ryter is hitting .378 on the season to lead Idaho. She ranks second in the conference and 47th in the NCAA in the category. Ryter has totaled a career-best 107 total blocks this season, averaging 1.14 per set. She set a career-high with 12 kills at Northern Arizona and hit a perfect 1.000 percent (5-0-5) at Idaho State. Ryter matched a career-set and matched her career-high with eight blocks in three different matches this season. She was named Big Sky Defensive Player of the Week for the week of the regular season.

Idaho finished the regular season 12-4 in the Big Sky. The Vandals split the Big Sky North Division Title and earned the No. 3 seed in the conference tournament. Idaho will take on No. 6 Idaho State later this afternoon in first-round play.
