This summer, GoVandals.com will be taking a deeper look into the worlds of its athletes with the Vandal Tribune. Stay tuned all summer to hear directly from some of your favorite Vandals.
Don't know him? You should. Ty Graham played in 10 games last season as a freshman and came on strong late. He recorded 40 tackles on the year, including 15 over the final three games. He also happens to be the "other guy" wearing number 10.
Everyone looks at that number and they think
QUARTERBACK.
It was probably my best game of the year, against South Alabama. I think I had four or five tackles with a sack and an interception, so I was hype.
THAT WAS THE BEST GAME I COULD'VE HAD.
After the game, and it was a good win for us, little kids were coming up to me. They were asking "hey, can we get your autograph!" That was the first time that I had a little kid come up and do that before.
So of course I did it. And I start signing, and then both of them look up and say
"SO YOU'RE THE QUARTERBACK RIGHT?"
It happened after the Bowl game as well. I didn't hear this, but my dad did. Everyone is hyped up on the field after the win, someone came up behind me and he was saying "look, there he is, there he is!"
But the other guy knew. "No, no, no, keep going,
"WRONG NUMBER 10."
We joke a lot. Matt and I are actually really close. In the lockerroom we switched our name plates out, so his locker has my name and my locker has his. It's just a back-and-forth joke about us having the same number. But what better guy could it be with?
I practice my drops on the daily,
JUST TO LET HIM KNOW I'M HERE.
If he doesn't keep his spot we have another, and in my mind a better, number 10 coming your way.
I think I tweeted a picture one time, with me signing autographs for some kids, and the caption was "the only reason I got to sign this autograph was because they thought I was
Matt Linehan."
I've kind of accepted the role of being the lesser number 10. For now. I don't know if that will change once he leaves or not, but thanks to Matt I have really developed what would be the "Great Value" version of the number 10.
At least in his mind.
And maybe everybody else's minds too. So I appreciate
Matt Linehan for that.
When they announced who the Potato Bowl MVP was, I was a little let down because I definitely thought they got the wrong number 10. So in the lockerroom I snagged a picture with the MVP trophy, by myself. I thought it was in the right hands at the moment, but his name was on it so I couldn't take it for myself.
