LONDON – Several Vandals, both current and former, will be taking on the 2017 IAAF World Outdoor Championships in London this week.

Current star Rechelle Meade will represent Team Anguilla and will be competing in the 100-meters.  Meade was outstanding as a freshman last season, advancing to the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships First Round in both the long jump and the triple jump.  Meade was also incredible at the conference championships, earning Freshman of the Year honors at both the indoor and outdoor meets.

A pair of former Vandals will also be competing for Team Canada.  Alycia Butterworth will be competing in the 3000-meter steeplechase, while Angela Whyte will be taking on the 100-meter hurdles.

Whyte is one of the most decorated athletes in team history, leaving Idaho with a number of school records that still stand today.  She has represented Canada at numerous elite events, including three Olympics.  Butterworth currently holds the second fastest time in the 3000-meter steeplechase in program history.

Meade will begin competition on Saturday, with Butterworth getting started on August 9.  Whyte is the last competitor to begin, with the first round of the 100-meter hurdles taking place on August 11.

There are also more ties to Idaho in the coaching ranks, with Melinda Withrow.  Withrow, formerly Melinda Owen, still holds the Idaho record in the pole vault, clearing 4.40 meters (14-5.25) in 2008.  Withrow will serve as the AAC Liaison within the staff.
