Comeback Complete!!!

Vandals stun Tigers

MOSCOW, Idaho – It was a comeback for the ages in the Kibbie Dome as Idaho (3-4-1) took down Memphis (6-2-0), 5-4, on Friday night.

The Vandals trailed 4-1 midway through the second half, but turned things on to close out the game.  After leveling the score in the 78th minute, Idaho kept the pressure on with the crowd on its side.

Bridget Daley found the ball on the Memphis side of the field and took off.  She passed up an opportunity to feed Myah Merino, as space cleared up in the middle of the field.  Daley lined up and fired, and the comeback was complete.

The win is Idaho's first in program history when giving up more than three goals.  The win is also Idaho's largest come-from-behind effort in team history.

Memphis, currently receiving votes in the most recent United Soccer Coaches poll, got on the board first from the penalty spot in the eighth minute.  The Vandals would respond in the 18th minute, with Merino netting her first of the season.

Olivia Baggerly took the ball out wide and sent in a low cross through the middle.  Morgan Crosby was able to get a touch on the ball, but the Memphis defense pounced quickly.  The Tigers couldn't clear the ball, however, leaving space for Merino to slot in a shot into the back of the net to tie the game at one.

The Tigers regained the lead in the 32nd minute, with Elizabeth Woerner's cross sneaking over Makayla Presgrave's hands.  Memphis doubled its lead early in the second and added a brace in the 54th minute.

The Vandals would keep fighting, with Kelly Dopke scoring her team-leading third goal of the season in the 67th minute.  Crosby delivered the cross on the corner, finding Dopke at the back post.

Daley got the third of the night for Idaho, following up after a Baggerly free kick tested the Memphis keeper in the 76th minute.

It took just over two minutes for the Vandals to find their fourth, again with a free kick from Baggerly.  She lined up from about 33 yards out and fired, placing the shot perfectly into the top corner.

Idaho closes out non-conference play on Sunday, with Nevada coming to the Dome for a noon kickoff.  Links for the free live stream and live stats can be found on the soccer schedule page.  As always, fans can follow all the action on Twitter, @VandalsSoccer.
