MOSCOW, Idaho – It was a tough evening for Idaho soccer (4-5-1, 0-1-0) on Friday, as the Vandals dropped their Big Sky opener to Northern Arizona (6-4-0, 1-0-0), 2-1, in overtime.
The Vandals had the majority of the possession in the first half, but the Lumberjacks took control to start the second.
Taylor Brust broke the draw in the 29
th minute, scoring her first collegiate goal. The play got started on a corner kick taken by
Bridget Daley. After a poor clearance from the Lumberjack defense,
Ashlee Workman reset the play by sending in a ball over the top. Brust was in the right spot, redirecting the pass with a header to put the Vandals up, 1-0.
The Lumberjacks leveled the score early in the second. NAU's Adrian Nixt was able to get a shot off from close range, forcing
Makayla Presgrave to make a tremendous save. The rebound took an NAU bounce, however, falling to the feet of Paige Maling who finished with ease.
NAU netted the game-winner In the 93
rd minute, with Nixt finishing from out front.
The Vandals return to action on Sunday at 1 p.m., with Sacramento State making its way to the Kibbie Dome.
