MOSCOW, Idaho—The Idaho men's and women's tennis teams are both set to open the fall season this weekend. The men will hit the court in Pocatello, while the women will make the trip up to Spokane.
The defending Big Sky champion men opened the season at Idaho State's Bank of Commerce Fall Tournament. Early action got underway on Thursday. The Vandal men return the entirety of the roster from last season. The doubles pairing of
Mark Kovacs and
Carlos Longhi Neto began the tournament seeded No. 1. The duo scored a pair of wins on Thursday to advance to Friday's semifinal.
Singles opened with the first round of the B Flight.
Kooper Crow and
Peter Shin represented Idaho in the round of 32. Both players are set for early evening action.
The women, also reigning Big Sky champions, will have a portion of the team at Gonzaga on Friday for the Bulldog Invitational. Junior
Marianna Petrei opened the fall last week at the ITA/Oracle Masters. She and teammate
Lucia Badillos will be back in Malibu, Calif., this weekend for the Riviera/ITA Women's All-American Championships. Petrie will play singles and then team with Badillos in the doubles tournament.
