LAST TIME OUT: Another day, another close game for the Vandals. Idaho was forced into a late-game defensive stand for the second consecutive game, holding a one point lead in the closing seconds. Portland State took a contested 3-pointer from the corner that rimmed out, but the Vikings crashed the glass effectively to get the tip-in for the win.
Victor Sanders was special on Saturday, scoring 28 points on 10-of-18 shooting.
Chad Sherwood was also outstanding, connecting on 5-of-9 from beyond the arc for a season-high of 15 points. It was the 23
rd time in his career that the older Sherwood hit at least three 3's, and just the first time that Idaho has lost.
RECORD BREAKERS: Sanders and
Chad Sherwood also moved up the Idaho all-time record books. Sanders passed Vandal great Connor Hill for fifth on the scoring list. Sanders now has 1,529 career points.
Chad Sherwood passed Dwayne Williams for sixth in career made 3-pointers. He now has 143.
NON-CONFERENCE SUCCESS: Idaho finished the non-conference portion of the season at 8-4. In
Don Verlin's now 10 seasons with Idaho, the eight early-season wins are tied for the most. The Vandals had eight early-season wins during the 2015-16 season, Idaho's best season (by wins and losses) since the early 1990's.
