Women's Swimming and Diving | 10/13/2018
MOSCOW, Idaho – Idaho women's swimming and diving kicked off the dual-meet season Saturday, with a 171-118 loss at home against Boise State. The Vandals' top finisher in 11 of the 14 swimming events Saturday, was faster than on Oct. 14 last season in a meet at Seattle, including both relays.
Â
The Vandals opened the meet with a 1:46.64 in the 200-yard medley relay. The team did not reach that mark in a meet last season until Nov. 10.
Â
"I hate the term moral victory but there are a lot of really good things today," said head coach
Mark Sowa. "We like to compare apples to apples and we were much better this weekend then we were a year ago at this point."
Â
Idaho's most competitive swims came in the breaststroke events. Senior
Lauren Votava took second in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:23.77) and fourth in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:07.05). Junior
Aimee Iwamoto took third in the 100 breaststroke, clocking a 1:06.56.
Â
Nikki Imanaka and
Janelle Lucas finished second and third respectively in each of the two diving events. Imanaka scored 284.55 on three-meter, while recording a 289.27 on one-meter. Lucas posted a 282.60 on three-meter and 258.75 on one-meter.
Â
"It was a really talented team we swam and dove against today," Sowa said. "But I felt like we were in each race."
Â
Idaho continues its season-opening home stand Saturday (Oct. 20), against Washington State. The meet is set to begin at 10:30 a.m. from the U of I Swim Center.
Â
"We'll be back to work Monday morning," Sowa said. "I can guarantee we will be better in spots, it'll be a different weekend."
