Idaho women's swimming and diving will host Washington State Saturday, beginning at 10:30 a.m., at the U of I Swin Center. This is the first meeting between the neighboring programs since Oct. 19, 2013, a 151-143 Cougar victory.

ABOUT THE VANDALS: Idaho is led by 10 seniors, including defending Western Athletic Conference champions Leah Fisk (200 freestyle) and Janelle Lucas (platform diving).

ABOUT THE COUGARS: The Cougars, who are led by four seniors, have a 1-2 record so far this season. Washington State is coming off of two home losses last weekend against No. 1 Stanford (169-86) and Boise State (151-108). The Cougars do not sponsor diving.

COMPETITION IN FREESTYLE: Washington State features a strong freshman freestyle specialist, Keiana Fountaine. The meet's biggest showdowns may come between Fountaine and Vandal standouts Leah Fisk and Sarah Hall. All three posted comparable times last weekend.

AHEAD OF THE CURVE: Idaho opened the 2018-19 season last weekend at home, falling to Boise State. Despite the loss, there was much to be excited about. The Vandals' top finisher in 11 of the 14 swimming events was faster Saturday against the Broncos than on Oct. 14 last season in a meet at Seattle, including both relays. The Vandals opened the meet with a 1:46.64 in the 200-yard medley relay. The team did not reach that mark in a meet last season until Nov. 10.

LUCAS LOOKING FOR HISTORY: Senior Janelle Lucas is a three-time champion in the platform dive at the WAC Championships. She is the only diver in WAC history to win three consecutive platform titles. Lucas is looking to become the first four-time champion in the event this season.

FISK FINDS HER STROKE: Leah Fisk scored 49 individual points at the 2018 WAC Championships, the fifth most by a Vandal at a conference meet in program history. Fisk won the title in the 200-yard freestyle, while also taking third in the 100 freestyle and sixth in the 500 freestyle.

ACADEMIC DISTINCTION: Last season the vandals recorded a 3.63 team grade-point average in the spring semester. The team was named a CSCAA Scholar All-America Team, 22 vandals were named Academic All-WAC, of those 11 were also all-conference performers.

LOOKING TO THE FUTURE: The vandals next meet is on Saturday, November 3 at home for a double dual meet vs Northern Arizona University and Seattle University at the U of I Swim Center.
