Big Sky Cross Country Championships Wrap

Women 4th, men 6th

RESULTS

SACRAMENTO, Calif
. – Idaho cross country took to the Big Sky Championships on Saturday in Sacramento.  The women finished fourth overall on the 5k course with 117 points, while the men placed sixth over their 8k course with 187 points.
 
"I thought both teams ran well today, raced hard," said director of track and field/cross country, Tim Cawley.  "We're in a good position building toward the NCAA West Regionals in two weeks.
 
"We're in a good place, we're moving well.  I was happy with how they competed, they really represented the Vandals well."
 
Kara Story was Idaho's top finisher on the women's side, finishing in third to earn All-Big Sky honors with a time of 16:44.9.  Andrea Condie also took home All-Big Sky recognition, finishing in eight at 16:57.0.  The Vandals were one of two teams to have multiple student-athletes finish in the top-10.
 
Malaina Thacker was Idaho's next finisher, in 21st at 17:19.6.  Krista Story, making her return after missing the last three meets, placed 25th with a time of 17:28.9.  Erin Hagen took fifth for the Vandals after finishing in 60th at 18:33.2.
 
"The women ran well," Cawley said.  "We had two student-athletes finish in the top-10 for the first time since we've been here, with Kara in third and Andie in eighth.  It was exciting to see them out there competing."
 
Skylar Ovnicek continued to be the leader on the men's side, finishing in 16th with a time of 24:19.9.  Fabian Cardenas was close behind in 19th, at 24:22.2.  Grayson Ollar placed third for a Vandals, finishing 35th overall with a time of 25:03.7.
 
Dwain Stucker and Drew Schultz finished in 56th and 66th, respectively, to round out the scorers.  Stucker completed the course in 25:34.9, while Schultz finished with a time of 25:57.2.
 
"The men ran hard," Cawley added.  "A little bit of the flu bug hit the men's team this week, but they fought hard and ran well."
 
The NCAA Cross Country West Regional is in two weeks, and will also take place in Sacramento.
