All Five Starters Score in Double Figures in 88-77 Win Over Texas Tech

LUBBOCK, Texas— Taylor Pierce leads all scorers, and all five starters score in double figures to lead Idaho to an 88-77 win over Texas Tech Saturday afternoon at the United Supermarkets Arena. Idaho moves to 2-1 on the season.

"I'm just so proud of this team and their effort today. I am proud of how we bounced back from the Stanford game and how hard and gritty we played today," commented head coach Jon Newlee.  "I thought we moved the ball extremely well. The 23 assists show that we're sharing the basketball. We've always said, we're not a two-person team anybody can step up, and that showed with having five players in double figures."

Pierce collected 22 points after going on a three-point shooting spree late in the third as the Vandals shot 5-of-9 from behind the arc. Pierce had four of the five made threes in the quarter.

Sophomore Natalie Klinker finished with a double-double grabbing a season-high 14 rebounds and 11 points while Mikayla Ferenz found her rhythm late in the third, totaling 15 points.

Isabelle Hadden set things off getting the bulk of her 17 points in the first half. Starting point-guard, Gina Marxen, rounded out the starters scoring 12 and dishing out a game-high six assists.

Not only did the offense click for the Vandals as they dished out 23 assists collectively, but the Lady Raiders had no answer to the Vandal's defense. Idaho came out with six steals, 32 defensive rebounds and forced 19 turnovers.

"I thought defensively we did a fantastic job," stated Newlee. "Their players are so big inside, and we did a much better job this game compared to how we did in Palo Alto [against Stanford] with their size."

"To come here in a Big 12 environment and win as we did is just outstanding. I'm proud of our players. We will enjoy this tonight and then get ready for a big tournament next week."
