MOSCOW, Idaho
– The University of Idaho Track & Field program is thrilled to announce the signing of Kelsey Swenson of Mountain View High School in Bend, Ore. Swenson has consistenly been one of the better distance runners in the state of Oregon since her freshman year and has a vast amount of untapped talent.

During Swenson's first three years of high school she competed at the 5A Oregon State Cross Country Championships placing ninth as a freshman, sixth as a sophomore, and fourth as a junior. Her high school moved up to compete in the 6A division during her senior season and Swenson placed 19th in a deep and talented field at the state championships, running her best time of 18:33 on the state meet course.

Swenson has had some impressive performances at post-season meets in cross country, she most recently placed 26th at the Nike Cross Northwest Regional race. During her junior year, Swenson ran an incredible race at Nike's BorderClash meet, placing 10th in a field of all the best runners in Oregon and Washington in all divisions. Swenson has a personal best of 18:00 for 5000m XC.

Swenson has also had success on the track, as a sophomore she placed fifth at the state championships in the 1500m and as a freshman she placed sixth in the 3000m. Swenson has personal bests of 4:52 in the 1500m and 10:31 in the 3000m.

"Kelsey is a gritty competitor with a big upside, so we are really excited to have her join the Vandal family. She is also a great student, exceling in the classroom and should help the team not only on the track but in the classroom as well." -Tim Cawley, Director of Track & Field/Cross Country
