Volleyball Sweeps Grizzlies at Home

MOSCOW, Idaho— Idaho volleyball swept Montana, 3-0 (25-23, 25-11, 25-21), inside Memorial Gym on Thursday night to improve to 19-8 overall and 13-2 in Big Sky action.

Senior Reece Carman led Idaho in hitting percentage with an efficient .522 clip collecting double-digit kills (12) on 23 swings with zero errors as well as adding three blocks. DeVonne Ryter followed behind with a .400 hitting percentage, second best on the night.

Senior Sarah Sharp led Idaho with double-digit kills with 13 (.219) while Kaela Straw, also a senior, added nine kills with one error on 22 tries. Haylee Mathis checked out with 34 assists and nine digs. Alycia Wodke recorded seven assists along with 12 digs. Underclassmen Delaney Hopen and Nikki Ball got in the books with two aces and four blocks, respectively.

SET 1
The Vandals (19-8, 13-2 Big Sky) started the opening set slow as the Grizzlies looked to take one early from the league's top team. Montana jumped out early with two straight kills showing the Vandals they mean business. From there the score led went back-and-forth as the Vandals found it hard to stay consistent. A 6-0 run, fueled by Idaho errors, gave the Grizzlies a six-point edge late in the set, 14-20. The Vandals turned things around using a 4-0 run to cut the deficit down to two points causing Montana to call a timeout. A late rally enabled the Vandals to pull off a comeback, winning the set 24-23.

SET 2
Despite Montana's 3-0 start, Idaho found momentum after Mathis tips one over finding space for a point and giving Idaho its first lead of the set, 5-4. It was Vandal domination from then on as Idaho found success from the service line collecting three aces and forcing at least two service errors. A quick 11-2 run gave the Vandals enough cushion to close out the set, 25-11.

SET 3
Two straight kills from Carman gave Idaho an early 2-0 advantage over Montana. An Idaho error knotted the score 6-6. Montana took and sustained a two-point lead until the Vandals used a 5-0 run to regain the lead (12-9) and forced a Montana timeout. Montana worked to tie up the set 20-20. Idaho finished the set with a 5-1 run with a kill from Kaela Straw giving the Vandals a 25-21 win.
