Vandals Complete Comeback over the Dons

MOSCOW, Idaho— Mikayla Ferenz scored 40 points while Natalie Klinker grabbed ten boards as the Idaho women's basketball team (3-3) erased a 13-point first-half deficit to rout the University of San Francisco (2-5), 70-63 at home on Saturday afternoon.
 
The Vandals used a nearly perfect performance at the charity stripe to assist in the defeat of the Dons shooting 20-for-22 (90.9 percent) as well as out-rebounding the opponent, 37-33.
 
Nina Carlson finished the game with eight points and six boards while Klinker added seven to go along with her ten rebounds.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Vandals trailed throughout the first half, falling behind be as many as 13 points, 26-39. Ferenz totaled 20 of the Vandals' 26 points to end the half.
 
Idaho flipped the script on the Dons in the second half as the Vandal chipped away at its 13-point deficit finishing the third quarter down by two points. The Vandals outscored the Dons, 19-8, with the help of its post presence in Isabelle Hadden, Carlson and Klinker on the boards collecting a combined 17 rebounds on the game. Taylor Pierce, who had yet to down a three-pointer, ended the third quarter with a long one from downtown to put the Vandals within two.
 
The momentum shifted in favor of the Vandals as the Dons found themselves fighting to keep their 45-47 lead. The lead was short lived as Ferenz broke free in the backcourt for a layup, giving the Vandals the lead, 50-48, for the first time in 31 minutes. Idaho led the Dons by as many as 11-points in the fourth before sealing the deal over the University of San Francisco, 70-63.




UP NEXT
Idaho concludes its non-conference season with a three-game stint on the road. The Vandals will first travel to Hawaii Wednesday, Dec 5. Tip is slated for 9:00 p.m. (Pacific).
