Vandals Drop The Battle

Fall in Pullman

PULLMAN, Wash. – A huge second half rally lifted Washington State (5-2) over Idaho (3-5), 90-70, on Wednesday night in the Battle of the Palouse.

THE GAME

The annual matchup lived up to the hype in the early going, with neither team able to take much of a lead in the first half.  WSU knocked down a couple buckets late in the frame to take the 45-40 advantage into the break.

The Cougs opened up the second half on an 11-0 run and never looked back from there.  Idaho was able to cut into the deficit on a handful of occasions, but was unable to get within single digits, as WSU

Idaho shot 44.4 percent (28-of-63) from the floor and 28.6 percent (6-of-21) from beyond the arc.  The Vandals won the rebound battle, 42-37.

Trevon Allen led the way for the Vandals with 17 points, while Geno West added 11 off the bench.  Jared Rodriguez and Marquell Fraser each had 10 points.

THE NAME

Geno West.  West scored 11 points off the bench for the Vandals, knocking down his first three shots of the game.  He provided a spark for the Vandal offense in the first half with a pair of triples.

West also added five rebounds and two assists in 22 minutes of action.

THE NOTES

Idaho moves to 3-5 on the season.  The Vandals will be back home for their next two games before closing out the non-conference portion of the schedule at Santa Clara.

The loss is Idaho's second straight in Pullman, after also falling during the 2016-17 season.  Idaho is now 3-2 over the last five against WSU.  WSU holds a 164-110 advantage in the series, dating back 114 years.
