SEATTLE, Wash.
– Several Vandals picked up individual wins on Sunday as Idaho track and field competed in its final regular season indoor meet of the year, the UW Open.

"A lot of PR's, a lot of personal bests on Sunday, which is always exciting, always a good sign going into conference," said director of track and field/cross country Tim Cawley.  "I think we're in a good place.  I think we're fine tuning some things and they're really starting to come together.  We had four wins on the day, and they just went out and competed hard.  We're really excited looking at this team, I think we have a good shot in two weeks of going out and doing some things at the Big Sky Championships."

Rechelle Meade won the long jump with a leap of 5.69 meters (18-8.00).  Meade currently leads the Big Sky rankings in the event at 6.17 meters (20-3.00) and is the only athlete to clear six meters this year.

Karina Moreland also got an individual win, in the triple jump.  Moreland, who also won the triple jump at last week's Idaho Duals, leapt 11.84 meters (38-10.25) to take first overall.

A pair of Vandals shined in the 3000-meters, led by Kara Story in second with a personal-best time of 9:42.90 who moves into the top-five in the Big Sky in the event.  Andrea Condie also posted a personal-best, finishing seventh at 9:48.38.

Erin Hagen moved up in the Big Sky rankings in the mile run with a personal-best time of 4:56.57, taking second overall.  Kaleala Bass ran a season-best in the 800 to finish third, finishing in 2:11.84.

Zachary Short won the shot put event for the third time this season with a personal-best throw of 18.01 meters (59-1.25).  Short is one of two athletes to break 18-meters in the event this season.

Kaizer Gillispie posted a season-best in the 400-meters to take second.  Gillispie, currently ranked sixth in the Big Sky in the event, finished in 48.18 seconds.  Ben Doucette placed second in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.10 seconds.  Doucette currently ranks second in the Big Sky with a season-best time of 7.94 seconds.  Quinn Mitchell finished third in the weight throw with a toss of 17.09 meters (56-1.00).

Dean Ellenwood and Jenner Higgins finished third and fourth, respectively, with season-bests in the 800-meters.  Ellenwood took third at 1:53.26, while Higgins finished fourth at 1:53.88.

The 4x400-meter relay squad of Gillispie, Rikki McCaw, Mack Baxter and Levi Wintz won the event in 3:21.39.

Next up is the USA Championships from February 16-18 in Albuquerque, N.M.  The Big Sky Indoor Championships follow that, from February 22-24 in Flagstaff, Ariz.
