Box Score IRVINE, Calif.—Idaho men's tennis dropped its first of three matches in four days on Tuesday. The Vandals opened up the trip to California with a 6-1 loss to UC Irvine at the Anteater Tennis Stadium.

The Vandals began the day strong, earning the doubles point. Idaho's pair of Mark Kovacs and Carlos Longhi Neto kicked things off with their sixth win of the season. They defeated UCI's Mason Hansen and Luca Marquard 6-4 at on the top court. The Anteaters drew even in the point with a 6-4 win at No. 2. Felipe Fonseca and Guilherme Scarpelli clinched the point for Idaho with their 7-5 win at No. 3

Idaho (5-4) claimed a 2-0 lead with Fonesca's 7-5, 6-4 win in the No. 4 slot to open singles. The win could sustain the moment. UCI won next three singles matches to gain a 3-2 lead. The Vandals needed to sweep the rest of the matches earn the win, but it was not in the books.

Sasha Krasnov took down Kovacs at the No. 2 court, 7-5, 4-6, 6-1, to hand the Anteaters the win.

Idaho returns to action on Thursday when they take on Cal Poly.
