VERLIN: "Obviously they're very talented and they play good team basketball. They have a number of guys who can score it at all three levels and that's what makes them tough. Their personnel is about as good as anybody in the league.
"We've got to do a lot better job than we did a week ago, or less than a week ago, in guarding the 3-point line. We have to do a lot better job of rebounding the ball. In the first half we did a real nice job of rebounding the ball, but in the second half we didn't, and that's always a big stat. What you have to do with Southern Utah is you have to make them shoot tough, contested shots and you have to grind it out. We have to sustain what we do."
LAST TIME OUT: The Vandals topped this same Southern Utah team on senior night, 78-76.
Brayon Blake was the star of the night, hitting the game-winning jumper with just over one second to play.
Blake finished with his 11
th double-double of the season, with 24 points and 11 boards.
Victor Sanders, wearing
Perrion Callandret's number one jersey as a show of respect for the injured senior, led the way with 28 points.
ALL-BIG SKY: Blake and Sanders were recognized by the coaches of the conference as All-Big Sky selections. Blake, who led the Big Sky in rebounding and finished eighth in scoring, earned a First Team nod, while Sanders, the Big Sky's fourth leading scorer, took home Second Team honors.
RENO: Idaho has had success at the Big Sky Tournament in Reno, winning in the quarterfinals in each of the previous two years. Last year, Idaho topped Montana in the quarterfinals before falling to eventual champion North Dakota.
