Box Score 2 LEWISTON, Idaho – Idaho men's tennis kept its hot streak alive on Friday at LCSC, taking down Northern Arizona and Portland State, 4-3, to move to 5-0 in Big Sky play.
The Vandals got the day started by sweeping the doubles point.
Esteban Santibanez and
Lucas Coutinho handled business quickly at No. 2, 6-3, while No. 53
Mark Kovacs and
Carlos Longhi Neto got the job done at No. 1, 6-4. Idaho's No. 3 doubles team,
Felipe Fonseca and
Guilherme Scarpelli, were leading 6-5 before the match was ended.
Idaho also picked up the first two points in singles, with Fonseca cruising to the 6-1, 7-5 win at No. 4 and Scarpelli grinding out a 3-6, 6-2, 6-4 win at No. 3. Both are now 4-0 in Big Sky matches this season.
The Lumberjacks took the next three points, before Santibanez wrapped up the match for Idaho with a 6-4, 3-6, 6-3 win at No. 5.
The Vandals closed with a nightcap against Portland State to wrap up the doubleheader.
The Vikings got the upper hand early on, winning the doubles point. The pair of Coutinho and Scarpelli evened point after PSU took the No. 3 court to start. Portland State took the point with a tight 7-5 win at the No. 1 court.
The Vandals turned it around in singles play, winning four of the six matches. Idaho jumped out to a 2-0 lead, picking up wins at the top two courts. Kovacs, playing at the No. 2 position, picked up Idaho's first point with a 6-0, 6-3 win. Longhi Neto followed suit on the No. 1 court with a 6-2, 6-2 decision.
Fonseca added a 6-2, 6-3 win at No. 4 before Portland State got one back at No. 3. Coutinho wrapped up the match with his 6-3, 6-4 win at No. 5 prior to the conclusion of play on the No. 6 court.
