MOSCOW, Idaho – Idaho men's basketball signed another tremendous addition today, with Bothell, Wash., native Cameron Tyson inking his National Letter of Intent to join the Vandals this summer.
"We identified Cameron more than two years ago as a guy that we thought would be a great fit for the Vandals, and we are extremely excited that he has chosen to join us," said head coach
Don Verlin.
Tyson played for Bothell High School under head coach Ron Bollinger, earning All-KingCo 4A First Team honors as a senior. He wrapped up his career this spring as Bothell's all-time leading scorer, passing NBA star Zach Lavine.
"What immediately jumps out about Cameron is that he can really, really shoot the ball and that his range extends beyond the NBA 3-point line," Verlin continued. "We believe that he has the skill level and the physical strength to come in and compete at a high level right away."
The Cougars went 21-3 last year, with Tyson averaging 26.6 points along the way. He also averaged 5.0 rebounds and 4.4 assists per game. As a junior in 2016-17, Tyson averaged 21.5 points, 9.6 rebounds and 4.3 assists per contest.
"He also fits the profile of the type of player that we want in the program," said Verlin. "He is a really high-character guy with a tremendous work ethic and a passion for the game."
Verlin is no stranger to recruiting in the area, with fellow Bothell High grad,
Perrion Callandret, wrapping up his career in the silver and gold this season.
