05/16/2018

MOSCOW, Idaho- Two University of Idaho teams earned Public Recognition Awards from the NCAA Wednesday, thanks to their most recent multi-year Academic Progress Rate (APR) scores ranking in the top 10 percent of their sport nationally. Women's cross country and women's golf each garnered the honor, marking the first time in school history multiple Vandal programs received Public Recognition Awards in the same year.

"We are incredibly proud of our programs striving for academic excellence while competing for championships," said Acting Director of Athletics Pete Isakson. "The goal of Vandal Athletics is to offer our young men and women the resources and opportunities to succeed on the field, in the classroom and in the community. These honors are proof that our fantastic student-athletes are working hard and taking full advantage of all that the University of Idaho has to offer."

Women's golf has earned the distinction each of the last four years and five times overall in the award's 13-year history. This is the first Public Recognition Award for women's cross country.

The APR accounts for eligibility, retention and graduation each semester or academic term and provides a measure of each team's academic performance.

The most recent multi-year APRs are based on scores from the 2013-14, 2014-15, 2015-16 and 2016-17 academic years.

The full 2016-17 APR report will be released by the NCAA next Wednesday (May 23).
