MOSCOW, Idaho- University of Idaho student-athletes posted a record-breaking semester in the classroom during the spring 2018 term. Vandal student-athletes combined for a 3.24 grade-point average, the department's highest term GPA on record.
A school-record 211 of Idaho's 308 student-athletes (68.5 percent) achieved at least a 3.0 GPA, including an all-time high 55 student-athletes with a perfect 4.0 last semester.
"Our student-athletes continue to set the bar higher and higher in everything they do," said Acting Director of Athletics
Pete Isakson. "The spring semester saw our Vandals earn a record GPA, win three Big Sky championships and have seven of our teams represented in postseason play. I can't say enough about the great work being done by our students, coaches and staff."
Overall, 13 of Idaho's 16 teams posted at least a 3.0 GPA. Women's cross country led the way with a 3.74. The team was also honored earlier in the week with a Public Recognition Award from the NCAA for having its latest multiyear Academic Progress Rate (APR) rank in the top 10 percent of all women's cross country teams nationally.
Four more teams checked in above a 3.5: women's track and field (3.73), women's basketball (3.68), women's tennis (3.65) and women's swimming and diving (3.62). Women's soccer ranked sixth in the department with a 3.49 term GPA.
Football posted the program's second-highest term GPA on record (since 2000) with a 2.91 for the spring. The semester included 48 football student-athletes at or above a 3.0.
The impressive spring semester comes on the heels of the best scholastic fall semester on record for the department. The Vandals registered a 3.16 department GPA in the fall, including 14 teams over a 3.0.
