Play Suspended at the U.S. Open

Second round will resume Saturday morning

06/01/2018

SHOAL CREEK, Ala.—Second-round play of the 73rd U.S. Women's Open was suspended at Shoal Creek Country Club Friday evening. Idaho's Sophie Hausmann completed 10 holes on the day and will resume play at 4:45 a.m. PT.

"Today was a very long day at the Open," Hausmann's caddie and Idaho women's head golf coach Lisa Johnson noted. "Sophie teed off at 12:31 CT and only played 11 holes."

Hausmann opened from the 366-yard par 4, 1st hole at 10:31 a.m. PT to open the day. Play was initially suspended due to lightning seven holes into play for Hausmann. Play was set to resume with players headed back out onto the course when they were pulled back for another delay.

The round resumed at 4:15 p.m. PT, after a near four-hour pause. Hausmann snuck in three more holes before play was again suspended due to darkness while she was on the 11th hole.
She totaled four bogeys, five pars and a birdie on the day. She sits at 3-over (43) for the round and is 9-over for the tournament.

"We are looking forward to finishing up the round tomorrow morning," Johnson added. "Sophie is truly enjoying this experience and is so happy to be finishing her second round tomorrow on her birthday."

The field will be cut down to the top 60 and ties after the completion of the second round. The projected cut line is at 4-over.
