NEW ORLEANS, La. – It was another great year in the classroom for Idaho track and field, earning the USTFCCCA All-Academic Team Awards on both the men's and the women's sides. Five Vandals were also individually recognized for their strong performances in the classroom and in the field of competition.
The women posted a team GPA of 3.69, the third highest cumulative GPA in the country. The men were also outstanding academically, finishing the year with a team GPA of 3.23.
To qualify for the team award, programs must finish the year with a cumulative GPA of at least 3.00. In total, 361 teams were recognized, including 220 women's teams and 141 men's teams. The Big Sky was well represented, with eight men's teams and nine women's teams earning recognition.
Five individuals were also recognized.
Kaizer Gillispie posted the top GPA among honored student-athletes, finishing the year at 3.69. He qualified athletically in the 400-meters, ranking 84
th in the nation in the event.
Ben Doucette also earned the recognition for the indoor season, finishing with a 3.62 GPA while being ranked 53
rd in the country in the 60-meter hurdles.
Zachary Short was recognized both indoor and outdoor. He finished the year with a 3.56 GPA (exercise science and health), was ranked 55
th in the country in the indoor shot put and qualified for the NCAA West Preliminaries in the outdoor shot put.
On the women's side,
Andrea Condie competed in the 5k at the NCAA West Prelims and posted a cumulative GPA of 3.49.
Rechelle Meade was also recognized, after finishing the indoor season ranked 27
th in the long jump and recording a 3.29 GPA.
To qualify, individuals must post a cumulative GPA of at least 3.25 and meet the athletic standards. To be recognized for the indoor season, student-athletes must finish the regular season ranked in the top 96 in the nation in the nation. To be recognized for the outdoor season, student-athletes must have participated in the NCAA Championships Preliminary Round.
