ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – Idaho women's golf finished strong during Tuesday's final round to tie for 10th place at the Branch Law Firm/Dick McGuire Invitational in Albuquerque. The Vandals's four scorers combined to shoot 1-under over the final five holes of play and move into the top 10.

Senior
Sophie Hausmann took fifth place, shooting 3-under (213; 69-71-73) in the first tournament of the year.
Â
"We played solid golf," said head coach
Lisa Johnson. "It was great to see Vicky shoot under par in her first tournament. Sophie had a very steady tournament. She missed some putts today she wishes she had back, but a top-five finish is great. We can take a lot from this week, including showing some toughness to come back from that second round yesterday."
Â
The Vandals sat in first place following a combined 1-under performance through the first 18 holes Monday, but shot 14-over in the second round of the day to move down the leaderboard.
Â
"I told them last night, 'you can focus on the great first round or the poor second round. I recommend you focus on the great one,'" Johnson said. "I think they did that. We approached today with a positive mindset and gave our best effort. Everybody needs to clean up some things in their games, but every team does and we have plenty of time to do that."
Â
Freshman
Vicky Tsai was the low Vandal Tuesday, recording the first sub-par round of her career. Tsai shot 1-under in the final round to finish in a tie for 37th at 6-over for the tournament (222; 75-76-71). She tied with teammate
Valeria Patino at 6-over. Patino, a sophomore, opened the tournament on fire Monday, shooting a 68 in the first round to match her career low.
Â
Idaho returns to action Sept. 17-19, at the Ptarmigan Ram Fall Classic in Fort Collins, Colo. The Vandals last competed at the Ptarmigan in 2015, where Hausmann finished 11th in her collegiate debut.
