GREELEY, Colo. – Idaho volleyball swept aside Northern Colorado Thursday, in Greeley, Colo., to start Big Sky play 2-0 with a pair of road sweeps. The Vandals (8-6, 2-0 Big Sky) took down the Bears (4-6, 0-1 Big Sky) by scores of 25-19, 25-17, 25-22 behind double-digit kills from
Sarah Sharp (12) and
Reece Carman (11).
Â
It is the first time since 1998 Idaho has started conference play with two sweeps and the first time in program history the Vandals have kicked off a conference season with two road sweeps. Idaho took down Eastern Washington 3-0, Tuesday, in the Big Sky opener.
Â
After inching away from the UNC late in the first set to take the early lead, Idaho ran off a 10-2 run early in the second set to seize control of the match. With the third set knotted at 22, the Vandals leaned on their seniors. Carman recorded two kills, sandwiched by a block from Sharp and
DeVonne Ryter, to secure the sweep.
Â
The Bears had no answer for Ryter in the middle of the Vandal offense. She recorded nine kills on 12 swings and was in on four of Idaho's eight blocks, including one solo block.
Â
The pair of victories away from home this week marks the first time Idaho has started a conference season with two road wins since 1999. That was the last time the Vandals started league play 3-0, which they will seek with another road match Sept. 27, at Weber State.
Â
Idaho will return home Oct. 4 and 6, for matches against Sacramento State and Portland State. Both matches will start at 7 p.m. in Memorial Gym. Tickets can be purchased
