COEUR D'ALENE, Idaho - Idaho women's golf fired a 2-over 286 in the second round of the Coeur d'Alene Collegiate Invitational Monday, to climb up to sixth place (13-over; 295-286) after two of three rounds played at the Coeur d'Alene Resort Golf Course. Seniors
Sophie Hausmann and
Michelle Kim each sit in the top 10 through 36 holes. The final round tees off at 8 a.m. PT, with a shotgun start.
Hausmann is tied for seventh at even-par 142, including a 3-under 68 in the second round. She has recorded a top-10 finish in each of Idaho's first two tournaments of the season.
"Early on in the second round I saw some putts going in," Hausmann said of her improvement. "When you go 2-under through the first five holes instead of 1-over, it gives you a little different attitude for the rest of the round and I was able to put it together."
Kim led the Vandals in the first round with an even-par 71. She finished with a flurry, birdieing the final three holes of her round. Her run started with a birdie on the infamous floating green of the 14th hole. She followed it up with a 1-over 72 in the second round.
""The first round was great," Kim said. "Coach (Lisa) Johnson walked with me for the first round and it helped me stay present. In the second round I was able to carry over what she coached me to do and it worked out."
Sophomore
Valeria Patino fired seven birdies on the day, including four consecutive holes midway through the second round. Patino is in a tie for 15th at 2-over. She moved up seven spots in the second round after shooting even par.
Illinois is 8-under through two rounds to lead the tournament by 18 strokes. The Vandals are three strokes out of second place, currently held by San Jose State. Idaho is 13-over for the tournament, one stroke back of a tie between Washington State and Long Beach State and one stroke ahead of California and Colorado State in a tie for seventh.
