COEUR D'ALENE, Idaho - Idaho women's golf vaulted into third place on the final day of the Coeur d'Alene Collegiate hosted by Gonzaga at the Coeur d'Alene Resort Golf Course. The Vandals shot a 6-over 290 Tuesday, in the third round to finish at 19-over (295-286-290=871) for the tournament, on shot ahead of California, two shots up on BYU and five strokes better than Washington State. Idaho did not count a score higher than 73 Tuesday, using a balanced outing to rise the leaderboard as a team and individually.
"This was a great comeback after our slow start yesterday on the first six holes," said head coach
Lisa Johnson. "The entire team contributed today. Sophie, Michelle and Valeria were clutch this week finishing high up on the leaderboard."
Senior
Michelle Kim tied for fifth, leading Idaho at 1-over (71-72-71) for the tournament. Kim shot even-par 71 in the final round, her second such round of the tournament. Fellow senior
Sophie Hausmann tied for eighth at 2-over (74-68-73). Hausmann has finished in the top 10 at each of Idaho's first three tournaments this season.
"It was awesome to have two players in the top 10 in what is one of the better fields we will face all fall," Johnson said. "It was great we were able to compete at such a high level. I know the team gained a  ton of confidence from our success this week and we will look to build on that during our off week before we head to Denver."
Valeria Patino continued her steady play Tuesday, shooting a 2-over 73 to finish in a tie for 13th place at 4-over (73-71-73). Patino had a team-high nine birdies on the week.
Freshman
Eddie Hsu carded the lowest round of her young collegiate career, rounding out Idaho's scoring quartet at 2-over 73. Hsu improved each round, finishing 13-over (78-75-73).
Idaho returns to action Oct. 5-7, at the Ron Moore Women's Intercollegiate hosted by Denver in Highlands Ranch, Colo.
