OGDEN, Utah – Idaho senior middle blocker
DeVonne Ryter was named Big Sky Conference Offensive Player of the Week for the week ending Sept. 2, the conference announced Monday. Ryter led the league last week, hitting .500 on 30 kills in helping the Vandals to a 2-1 record at the Pepperdine/CSUN Challenge. Idaho has brought home the first two offensive player of the week awards this season after
Kaela Straw earned the same honor last week.
Â
Ryter scored 40 total points on the weekend, averaging 3.33 points per set, including a season-high 15 points Friday, against Pepperdine. She recorded at least nine kills and five blocks in every match. The Sedona, Ariz., native tallied 16 total blocks for the week.Â
Named Big Sky Defensive Player of the Week once last year, this marks Ryter's second career honor and first as the league's offensive standout.
Â
Ryter and the Vandals continue their season this week at the Rainbow Wahine Volleyball Challenge in Honolulu. Idaho opens the tournament Thursday, against host Hawai'i. The Vandals will also take on San Diego State (Friday) and Portland (Saturday).
