The Vandals came out on fire to win the first set, 25-19. San Diego State was able to take a 17-16 lead during the set, but Idaho responded with a 9-2 run to close things out and go up 1-0.
The Aztecs dominated the beginning of the second set, getting up by as many as eight on multiple occasions. The Vandals, however, didn't give up. Idaho trailed 20-12 late but went on a 6-0 run to make things interesting down the stretch, but ultimately fell 25-20.
The third set was one for the ages. Neither team was able to build much momentum early in the set and the score stayed within two points. SDSU found a way to rattle off three straight late, taking a 23-20 lead and holding all the momentum. The Vandals responded the way only the Vandals can, with four straight points to take the lead at 24-23. After trading points, Idaho was able to take the set, 30-28, behind back-to-back kills from Sharp and
Nikki Ball.
The fourth set was the exact opposite. The teams traded points in the early going, but then Idaho turned things on with eight consecutive points to go up 12-4, and coasted from there for the 25-14 win.
Idaho closes out competition at the Outrigger Challenge with Portland on Saturday at 6 p.m. Pacific.
