MOSCOW, Idaho – A pair of big runs by the Griz doomed the Vandals on Saturday night in the Cowan Spectrum, with Idaho (4-13, 1-5 BSC) falling to Montana (12-6, 5-2 BSC), 69-51.
THE GAME
The Vandals got out to a good start, taking a 10-7 advantage in the opening minutes. Idaho would hit a cold stretch, going scoreless over the next 7:36, as Montana took over with a 16-0 run. After the teams traded buckets to put Montana up 28-16,
Trevon Allen stepped.
The most veteran Vandal went on a 9-0 run from there, helping cut the deficit to just 31-25 at the break.
The Vandals chipped away over the early part of the second half behind Allen, getting within three points on a pair of occasions. Allen got the Vandals within one possession, at 49-46, after this crossover.
Montana then went on its second run. The Griz went on a 19-2 run, including 13 straight at one point, to reclaim the lead and cruise to the 69-51 win.
THE NAME
Trevon Allen. Allen got hot at the right time and carried the Vandals for a 10-minute stretch in the middle of the game. He scored 16 straight points for Idaho, outscoring Montana 16-12 over a 10-plus minute stretch.
THE NOTES
Idaho falls to 4-13 on the season and 1-5 in the Big Sky.
Allen made four 3-pointers, the most of his career. Allen has now scored 20-plus points in four of the last five games.
Idaho shot just 35.8 percent (19-of-53) from the floor and 33.3 percent (7-of-21) from the floor.
