CLEVELAND - Idaho linebacker
Ed Hall was named to the Football Championship Subdivision Athletics Directors Association (FCS ADA) Academic All-Star Team, the organization announced Friday. The academic all-star team featured 47 football student-athletes from around the FCS. Hall is one of three Big Sky representatives, joined by Montana's Dante Olsen and UC Davis' Wes Preece.
Hall carries a 3.83 grade-point average in mechanical engineering and recently completed his Idaho career with 239 tackles, including 61 as a senior to rank fourth on the Vandals in 2018, despite missing two games due to injury. He was selected to the CoSIDA Academic All-District 7 First Team for the second consecutive season. Hall's greatest impact yet may be felt in the real world. He is working with fellow engineers and finance students, including teammateÂ
Alex Boatman, to develop the Forever Shower. A shower targeted to recreational vehicles that uses filtered, recycled water, the Forever Shower has won entrepreneurial and innovation awards across the region.
The FCS ADA Academic All-Star Team was picked from a pool of nearly 100 nominees. Each was required to have a minimum GPA of 3.2 and have been a starter or key contributor with legitimate athletics credentials. A special Review Committee of FCS athletics directors was responsible for selecting the team. This year's Review Committee consisted of: Bill Smith, Bryant University (Chair); Nathan Pine, College of the Holy Cross; Kent Haslam, University of Montana; Ashley Robinson, Jackson State University; and Thorr Bjorn, University of Rhode Island.
"One of the most important responsibilities that the FCS ADA has is the selection of the Annual Academic All-Star Team," stated current FCS ADA President Bill Smith, director of athletics at Bryant University. "This group of young men are some of the best and brightest football players and scholars in the country. They have been leaders on their individual campuses and have excelled in the classroom, their communities and on the gridiron. They truly exemplify FCS football and now we have the honor of naming them to the 2018 Academic All Star Team."
