MOSCOW, Idaho— Senior guard
Mikayla Ferenz had a career night for the Idaho women's basketball team, becoming the second women's basketball player in Idaho history to notch 2,000 career points, but it was not enough as the Vandals (6-7, 3-1) dropped an 86-72 Big Sky Conference decision to the University of Northern Colorado (8-4, 3-0) Saturday afternoon at Cowan Spectrum.
THE GAME
Idaho jumped on the board first with a quick three-pointer from
Taylor Pierce, but it was the Bears that controlled the first quarter ending with a 13-12 lead.
A 9-0 run early in the second frame gave Idaho its first lead of the game, nine points, causing the Bears to call a timeout to regroup. At the halftime, Idaho maintained the nine-point lead after a made three by
Juliet Jones.
Leading 37-28 after the half, Idaho produced similar numbers in the third quarter but was outscored by the Bears by three in the end. However, the Vandals still had a six-point cushion going in the final frame.
Unfortunately for the Vandals, Northern Colorado came out scorching hot as a team going on a 19-0 run that lasted the majority of the quarter, giving the Bears a 14-point lead with a 1:07 to play. The deficit proved to be too much for the Vandals losing 86-72.
