BRUST EARNS BIG SKY HONORS: Junior defender
Taylor Brust earned Big Sky Offensive Player of the Week honors last week after scoring a pair of goals. Brust, who traditionally plays in the midfield but has been moved back to the center back position after injuries decimated the back line, scored her first of the season on a 50-yard free kick against Northern Arizona. Her second came with under one minute to play in the first overtime period against Southern Utah, giving Idaho its first conference win of the season, on senior day.
Â
SO YOU'RE SAYING THERE'S A CHANCE: Idaho still has a chance at making the Big Sky Tournament. Idaho will need to win both games this weekend, and will still need a little help. The Vandals will need Eastern Washington to not lose to Portland State on Friday, and will also need Weber State and Idaho State to not earn six points on the road at NAU and Southern Utah.
Â
LAST TIME OUT: Idaho defeated Southern Utah, 2-1, in overtime to earn its first Big Sky win of the season. The Vandals got up late in the first half, with
Berglind Baldursdóttir scoring her first goal as a Vandal. The Thunderbirds were able to level the score in the 88
th minute, but Brust came to the rescue with 18 seconds to play in the first overtime to get the win.
Â
SERIES HISTORY: Idaho is 4-4-1 all-time against Sacramento State, but 1-3-0 in Sacramento. The last meeting in California came during the 2016, when the Vandals earned the 5-1 win behind a hat trick from Emma Eddy. Last season, the Vandals defeated the Hornets in Moscow, 2-0, with goals from
Myah Merino and
Hadley Sbrega.
Â
Idaho is 8-5-0 all-time against Portland State. Last season, the Vandals dominated in Moscow, 4-0.Â
Bridget Daley got the hat trick for the Vandals, and Merino added the final goal. Idaho last played at Hillsboro Stadium in 2016, a 2-1 win.
