MOSCOW, Idaho – The University of Idaho Track & Field program is thrilled to announce the addition of Grady Leonard to the program. Grady is a transfer from the University of Nebraska and is a native of the state of Idaho, having graduated from Coeur d'Alene High School.
 
Leonard is already a national level thrower in the NCAA, having qualified for the Outdoor Track & Field Championships in the shot put in 2019. Leonard was also a conference scorer for the Huskers last year in the Big Ten Conference. He placed eighth in the shot put out­doors and seventh in the shot indoors. His collegiate per­sonal bests are 18.46 meters in the shot (60'6.75"), 52.66 meters in the hammer throw (172' 9"), 18.48 meters in the weight throw (60' 7.75"), and 48.66 meters in the discus (159' 8").
 
During his time at Coeur d'Alene High School, Leonard was a highly successful athlete as part of the 2017 graduat­ing class. He was a three-time state champion in track & field. He won the shot put as a senior and junior, and also won a state championship in the discus as a senior. He was third in the discus as a junior as well. He has high school personal bests of 67'0" in the shot put and 188' 5" in the discus. His mark in the shot put was the seventh best mark in the country among all high school­ers in 2017. His marks in both throws are school records at Couer d'Alene High. Leonard placed sixth at the USATF Junior Track & Field Championships in the shot put in 2017.
