POSTGAME NOTES
MOSCOW, Idaho – A tough, physical contest played right into the Vandals' hands on Saturday, with Idaho (4-5, 2-3 BSC) taking down Cal Poly (2-7, 1-5 BSC), 21-9, in the Kibbie Dome.
Â
Aundre Carter went off for a career-high 179 yards on the ground, the most yards on the ground by a Vandal since Elijhaa Penny went for 192 on Halloween in 2015. Carter took it to the house twice, including a 37-yard rush that gave the Vandals a lead they would not relinquish.
Â
Carter added a second score late in the third, going around the outside from the 1-yard line. The Vandals would add some insurance early on in the fourth, as
Mason Petrino found
Jeff Cotton for a 22-yard score. Cal Poly cut into the deficit late in the fourth, but it was too little, too late and Idaho came out on top 21-9.
Â
Christian Elliss led the way for the Vandal defense, finishing with 13 tackles. The defense was tremendous all day and held Cal Poly to just 242 yards, and had held the Mustangs to under 50 yards passing until the touchdown drive late in the fourth.
Â
The Vandal run game was superb and finished with 244 yards. Aside from Carter's 179, Petrino added 28 and
Dylan Thigpen chipped in with 23 tough yards. Cotton finished with a team-high 65 yards in the air, while
Cutrell Haywood added six catches for 58 yards.
Â
The Vandals hit the road next weekend to battle for the Little Brown Stein, at No. 8 Montana.
