CEDAR CITY, Utah – Idaho volleyball ran into a hungry Southern Utah squad on Thursday night, falling to the Thunderbirds in three sets. The Vandals (13-16, 9-8 BSC) and the Thunderbirds (14-15, 7-10 BSC) have one match remaining in the regular season, before the Big Sky Conference Championship gets started in Sacramento next week.
Kyra Palmbush led the Vandals with eight kills and five blocks on the day.
Donnée Janzen recorded 24 assists, while
Delaney Hopen chipped in with 14 digs.
Idaho took an early advantage in the first set, going up by as many as six at 19-13 on a block from Palmbush and Janzen. Southern Utah locked in from there to go on a 10-4 run to tie things up at 23. The Thunderbirds closed well, taking the set 28-26.
SUU kept up the hot streak into the second. The Thunderbirds continued to build their lead throughout, eventually winning the set 25-16.
Southern Utah continued its strong play into the third and took the set, 25-14, to sweep the match.
The Vandals close the regular season at Northern Arizona on Saturday at 10 a.m. Pacific.
